The Control of Substances
Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) gives the legal framework
for the control of exposure to substances hazardous to health in
all types of business (e.g. factories, farms, quarries, leisure
and service activities).
The Regulations require employers to make a written
assessment of all work which is liable to expose any employee, or
person entering the premises, to hazardous solids, liquids, vapours,
gases, mists and micro-organisms.
Air monitoring, health surveillance and testing of
control measures to ensure that they are working correctly may need
to be carried out. In some cases, records of testing etc. may need
to be kept for up to 40 years.
